Direct cremation and what it involves.

Direct cremation is a fairly new service that funeral directors can offer their families, and became more common during Covid-19 when attendances at funerals were minimal.

Direct Cremations may be a personal choice, or because of money constraints. Either way you can have a more personal memorial service later on.

You have probably seen them advertised on the television by several big companies who seem to have cornered the market. Their crematoriums are down South, so any cremation will not be local to you.

I think I am right in saying that most local funeral directors offer this service, but what they offer for the price are all different, so please check before you sign anything.

The service involves no ceremony and no attendees. The funeral director should tell you the time of the cremation and should return the ashes to you, unless you want to collect them yourself.

The big companies tend to not offer dressing or viewing of the deceased, they may ask for an extra charge for this if they are willing to do it, they will also charge extra for removing the deceased if they pass away in a nursing home or at home after 5.00p.m

Our direct cremations are carried out at Babworth Crematorium which is near Retford and is in a beautiful setting. We return the ashes to you, or you can collect them from us if you prefer. We offer the service at a very competitive price as Babworth crematorium fee is lower.

Alternatively you can have the direct cremation at City Road or Hutcliffe wood. The price is more as the crematorium fee is higher.

We offer dressing and viewing of the deceased within the price and there are no hidden extras.
