Sheffield Burial Services And Prices
People in Britain have placed great importance on burial rites and funeral rituals for thousands of years. It’s one of the most common ways of laying a loved one to rest in our country’s history and continues to be hugely significant for many people living here today. Sheffield City Council has sixteen cemeteries that it manages in Sheffield, and a woodland burial ground at Wisewood Cemetery. A burial plot managed by Sheffield City Council Cemeteries can be leased for 50 or 100 years.
The Woodland Burial Ground offers the opportunity for those departed to ‘return to nature’ and contribute to the formation and preservation of natural woodland. It provides the ideal setting for a burial area, overlooking the beautiful Loxley Valley. There are also several other woodland burial sites in South Yorkshire.
This type of burial is not intended for those who wish to place a traditional memorial stone on the grave, or for those who feel the need to frequently visit the site.
Each grave will be marked by a small stone marker and a choice of native tree. The grass will be cut infrequently and no horticultural chemicals will be used.
Graves are leased for a minimum of 30 years and for one interment only.
Aswell as traditional burials, we are seeing more natural burials taking place. These burials are eco-friendly and are an asset to the environment and encourages wildlife into its own habitat.
There are several natural burial sites within Sheffield and South Yorkshire including in Apperknowle and Ulley.
